Read Across America

Thursday, March 2 is Dr. Seuss’ birthday! Schools all over the country celebrate this day with an event called Read Across America. The Middle School is celebrating by having a Read Across America Night, sponsored by LMS CommuniTeen.  For this event, middle school students bring their little sisters and brothers to school to hear a story, make a craft, and eat a snack (Pre-K to Grade 2). The event will be held on Thursday, March 2 at 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM in the LMS Library. The cost is FREE!

If you would like your children to participate in this event, please click here and complete the sign up sheet. We hope you will bring your children to this fun event!
The February LMS Newsletter is Out!
The LMS School Newsletter goes beyond the highlights and headlines that are posted in Tweets and on Facebook. The newsletter gives parents and the community at large an in-depth look into the school day as our teachers, administrators, and students experience it.

In this month's newsletter, you can read about MobyMax, a new online system that students can use to practice skills in all of their core subject areas, some new after-school/evening enrichment programs, who made the honor roll, and much more.

To find the February issue, just click on the School Newsletter link in the panel on the left. Enjoy!

Middle School Toy Drive
Starting in February we will be holding a toy drive. This was started by a 7th grade student. More details can be found on our Facebook page, but for now here is her incredible email to Mrs. Nelson.
My name is Delia Shea, and I am a currently in seventh grade. I wanted to include the community in contributing to something I am passionate about, and I thought the following would be a great way to do so.
First of all, when I was four and a half years old, I went into surgery at Boston Children's Hospital because I had a coarctation of the aorta, meaning one of my main arteries had a small narrowed piece just behind the heart. Before the surgery, I didn't have a pulse from the waist down. I was at the hospital for a week, and I don't remember much. However, one of my vague memories was sitting on the hospital bed, and a nurse bringing in a big box made to look like a treasure chest. It was filled with toys, and I got to pick one out and eventually take it home. It lifted my spirits tremendously. It was only later that my mom explained to me that the idea behind the Treasure Chest was to help children with taking their many medications and to get through the hard times. So, what I wanted to do is give back to the place that saved my life, and organize a fundraiser to donate toys to put into the treasure chest. I am asking you because I want to get the students to donate, too. I believe that with your help I can reach my goal of one hundred toys to donate by the end of February (February is American Heart Month).
